Friends,
Reviewing my files today of the years I was president of the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (1978-83), I was reminded of our regular board meetings at Rolling Ridge during that era, and of the fine hospitality we enjoyed at your center. There was a spiritual energy there which supported and encouraged our sense of urgency and seriousness of purpose as an agency for social improvement and change.
Of course it has been many years since then, and all the personnel must have changed. But I see from your website that you still cultivate the sense of sacred space there which we experienced so appreciatively at the time.
One very tangible aspect of our experience was the quality of the dining, which was a source of wonder to those of us accustomed to meeting in various conference centers around the country. I doubt this has been given any priority in your archives, but it should be, and, from your website, I’d guess you carry on that tradition. The meals were wonderful then, back when you still called your chef “the cook,” and I even remember being impressed that you found your ice cream at a little creamery right in the village, probably long gone by now to interstate commerce.
Anyway, thanks for the memories, and be well in the light of a God who gives value both to great spiritual purposes and to the daily grind of running a worthy meeting place.
